“Practice doesn't make perfect, only perfect practice does,” in order for us to manifest “perfect practice” in every session, many responsibilities fall to you, the teacher. The result of student performance, class competition, and experience are dictated by the teacher's energy, compliance, and attention to detail within the class. While many rules are listed out below and through orientation, we urge our teachers to use their best judgment with the priority of every class being students' performance and engagement.

            • – Cell phone use is not permitted during class by neither students nor teachers.

            • – Working on any paperwork while class is in session is not permitted as managing/observing students closely are critical.

            • – The teacher must be attentive and engaging towards students, so they feel observed and engaged.

            • – Teachers must closely observe and coach students to ensure the proper techniques are being followed while utilizing the abacus tool:

                              Students hold the abacus with correct hand placement.

                                    Right-handed students should hold the abacus with the left hand and move beads with their right hand.

                                    Left-handed students should hold the abacus with the right hand and move beads with their left hand.

                              Students must use the correct side of the abacus to move beads.

                                    If the concept is required to move the beads on the right side, then it doesn’t matter the student is right-handed or left-handed, the movement of the beads should                         be on the right side. Likewise, if the concept requires the left side.

                              Students must use the correct fingers to move the beads.

                                    Index fingers should be used to move the beads down.

                                          To add and subtract upper beads.

                                          To subtract lower beads.

                                    The thumb should be used to move the beads up.

                                          To add lower beads.

                                     Both thumb and index fingers should be used to add or subtract upper and lower beads together.

                              The pencil should be held correctly. The pencil should be held between the index and middle finger.

                              Placement of the workbook and the abacus should be positioned correctly.

                              The abacus should not be placed on the lap or kept tilted.

                              While moving the beads up and down, do not hit hard on beads as it can disturb the movement and answers on an abacus.

            • – The assigned guided practice workbook should be completed in its entirety within every session.

            • – Ensure that students have written their names on workbooks eligibly and correctly.

            • – No artwork (drawing or doodling) should be presented on the workbooks.

            • – Motivating the students periodically with positive reinforcement if they get an answer correct helping them enhance their confidence. Remind students about the value and the end results they will obtain from the training.

            • – Ensure that students are maintaining the correct posture.

            • – Motivate the students to finish their homework correctly and consistently.

                              Time must be recorded for each day.

                              Students must only complete a day’s worth of homework each day.

                              Writing the date.

                              Solving the equations using the proper methods as directed on the workbook.

                              Turning in on-time. Homework must be completed on the due date.

                              Answering all the questions.

            • – Review any questions around homework at the beginning of the class.

            • – Encourage students to memorize a set of numbers per equation instead of reading one number at a time when solving.

            • – If a student seems to be struggling with finger theory, switch to the abacus method. However, switching abacus to finger theory is not allowed.

            • – Follow these steps in order to increase speed and accuracy on visualization.

                              Ensure that students are moving beads fast on the abacus.

                              Have students use the abacus to show the first number in the equation and then have them solve the rest of the equation using the visualization method while                    looking at the abacus.

                              Utilize the digital abacus & flashcard game in class when appropriate.

                              Watch the student’s finger movement.

                              While dictating the problem pause in the middle and ask them the answer.

            • – Share feedback with admin at your earliest regarding sessions.

            • – Prepare a mental math report promptly after class is completed.

            • – The teacher should address and manage a class with high energy and enthusiasm.

            • – Be patient all the time.
